It’s been a while

16Mar10

So I am thinking I may give this blogging thing another go. Don’t get to excited yet as I don’t know how often or for how long I will be updating this thing. Ultimately it comes down to the fact that I need to be better at communicating my thoughts and ideas. I need to be better at keeping in touch with people.

They say the road to hell is paved in good intentions. I think I may have added a whole lane with nothing but my intentions to call people and see how they are doing. See what they are up to. I have never been good with the calling of people, or the talking on the phone. I really aught to fix that.

So what is new with me…. so much and yet so little at the same time. I guess I should go back to November as that is when things started changing.

In November, I found out I was being laid off from my position at IBM. It was crushing, devastating news at the time. I loved working there, loved the people I worked with and loved the clients we supported. Every day it was fun going in to work. I did a good job, took on many extra duties. Their decision to lay me off made me wonder if all that hard work was really worth it. I fell into a bit of an emotional slump for a while, weight increased… productivity decreased.

Just before my last day at IBM in December, I got my new job. Seasonal Tax support for Intuit. Coming over here, I was a little nervous as I was only a temp (but at least it would put off the possibility of EI until the end of May). I am first to admit that I don’t know a whole lot about taxes, or accounting, but they needed some strong technical people on the team and I fit the bill.

Things rolled along pretty predictably, and now we are into March. I have landed a permanent position here supporting some accounting software that Intuit offers, and am looking forward to starting that in May. It is only one application, so pretty easy from a tech support standpoint. The facilities here are incredible (full gym, cafeteria, games room, etc) so it is a pretty awesome place to work.

This summer, the wife and I are going to be heading out to Newfoundland for 2 weeks. Pretty exciting to see what it is really like out there. I have heard stories and seen pictures, but I seriously can’t wait to go. I want it to be July now.

Also in the next couple of months we have tickets to a few various events

Oilers game this sunday
Whose line is it anyway (live show with ryan stiles and greg proops)
Jubilations Dinner Theatre tickets
and of course there is Bon Jovi this June.

I am looking forward to the rest of the year, and will try to update more frequently (at least as often as those events occur)
